A cattle trader was on Monday killed and another wounded in an armed attack by unknown gunmen in Cueibet County of Lakes State, a local official said.
The incident occurred in the Akuryiei area of Ngap payam.
Zechariah Mamer Thokgor, the county’s executive director, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the incident was a revenge attack. "The cattle trader who was killed and the wounded person belonged to the Wat section of Pagor payam,” Mamer said.
He added, “The two traders were traveling with herds of cattle for sale from Cueibet to Maridi, but before reaching their destination, they fell into an ambush”.
The local official strongly condemned the incident. "These revenge killings all over South Sudan, particularly in Lakes State take us back and it is part of its anti-progress,” he said.
According to reports, the routine of inter-communal clashes in many parts of the country prevails due to lack of an efficient justice system.
