A cattle trader has been seriously injured during an attack carried out by armed assailants in Duk County in Jonglei State on Thursday evening, local officials said.
John Chatim, the Duk County commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj that the incident occurred when a group of cattle traders on transit to the state capital, Bor town, were attacked along the Jonglei Canal embankment in Duk Padiet town.
“On Thursday evening, a group of cattle traders who came from Ayod County were attacked while resting along the Jonglei Canal in Duk Padiet Payam before they could proceed to Bor town to sell cows,” Chatim said. “A cattle trader was shot and wounded on his foot during the attack.”
The official pointed out that an investigation has been launched into the incident but that no arrests have been made because the attackers fled without looting the animals.
For his part, Ajak Atem Atungjuch, the Duk Padiet Payam administrator, said the injured man is being treated in the Payam and called for his evacuation to Bor for further medical attention.
“Local youths brought the injured person to the town on a stretcher this Friday morning but we called on aid agencies to take him to Bor for more medication,” he said.
