At least two people a boy and a girl are confirmed dead in a cattle camp attack in Gogrial East. The incident took place on Monday night at Arieu village in Toc west payam in Apuk South County when armed men tried to raid a cattle camp. No cattle were taken as herders exchanged gunfight with the attackers. Locals and officials alleged that the suspects came from Aguok as their footprints crossed to that side.
Apuk East county commissioner Daniel Anyuon Chan Ajuong confirmed the raid to have occurred and called during an interview with Radiotamazuj on his Alek North and South counterparts to cooperate with each other in order to trace and arrest culprits involved in theft and to face justice.
“Yes we are now maintaining the situation. We went to the area to let the situation be calm and then call for dialogue again. The suspects are still yet to be apprehended but we informed their commissioners to look around their hiding places and if they will be found then they will be arrested”, Anyuon said “Let us look forward because we need peace because our people are suffering”, Anyuon added. Separately, Anyuon also confirmed four local chiefs were arrested for investigation in connection to an incident when a gun man killed three traders last month on the road to Pan Achier market. He said three chiefs were released but an acting paramount chief still in police custody.
“The suspect was not found yet, but we confiscated over one hundred of his cattle. We also arrested local chiefs but we released three of them and now in the police custody is acting paramount to give us information of whereabouts the suspect” Anyuon explained.
Anyuon also called on both sides to maintain peace and allow government to investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, Gogrial state governor Abraham Gum Makuac has admitted before members of state parliament that 11 people were killed between August and on 5th September by people he called bandits. “My government has maintained peace and security in the state though there are criminals who brutally killed innocent people between common borders between Apuk and Aguok. I received reports of senseless killings from different areas and the number of causalities has gone up to eleven” Gum explained before members of state legislative assembly yesterday.
He stated that security forces have been deployed o trace down these criminals. He also urged members of state parliament to help in preaching peace and previous peace resolutions agreed by both communities at Buok dit peace conference held last June.
