‘Cattle dying in large numbers’ in eastern Jonglei

An outbreak of an unknown disease is killing cattle in ‘large numbers’ Pibor County of eastern Jonglei, according to the county government.

County Commissioner Joshua Konyi yesterday was quoted by Eye Radio FM in Juba as saying that the symptoms of the disease are similar to those of East Coast fever.

“The Murle depend on cows; the cattle are now dying in a large numbers from this unknown disease,” said the commissioner.

He said that they don’t have medicine to treat the disease: “We’ve reported this to the state headquarters but we haven’t received any response from the veterinary doctors.”
