Catholic diocese of Tambura-Yambio distributes textbooks to schools

The Catholic Church on Saturday launched the distribution of textbooks to primary and secondary schools in Western Equatoria region.

The Catholic Church on Saturday launched the distribution of textbooks to primary and secondary schools in Western Equatoria region.

The former Western Equatoria State had been divided into Amadi, Maridi, Gbudue and Tambura States in October 2015.

A container full of textbooks was donated through the Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio by sons and daughters of the greater Western Equatoria State living in the United States. The donation is aimed at promoting literacy in the region.

Speaking during the launch at the Diocesan Curia, the Bishop of Tambura-Yambio Diocese, Barani Eduardo Hiiboro thanked God for the valuable gifts. “Let us reinforce not only school libraries but public libraries too. Let us encourage the culture of reading because when you read, great things happen,” he said.

The religious leader called upon the beneficiaries to use the books in a good way. He appreciated the region's diaspora population for thinking about their community back home with instruments of learning.

“I want to give credit to Western Equatoria Community Association in America, they got the books and facilitated their transport to us,” Bishop Eduardo said.
