The Roman Catholic Church in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan announced that it would launch two projects in areas south of Kiir River this week.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Pastor Stephen John Kuol said the church is planning to install 20 water pumps and provide aid to hundreds of conflict-affected people in the area.

He said the two projects will also benefit internally displaced people who crossed from Abiemnom County in neighbouring Unity state.

Stephen said the service will be extended especially to those who do not have cards in order to alleviate their suffering.

“The people are suffering especially in terms of water during the dry season. The assistance will depend on those who badly need help,” he said.
