CARITAS distributes food aid to returnees in Kuajok

The Catholic charity CARITAS, operating under the Diocese of Wau, has distributed food aid to 150 returnee households and vulnerable families in Kuajok, Warrap State. The distribution took place on Friday at St Joseph Catholic Church.

The food items, donated by the Spanish charity Manos Unidas, were received in May last year but could not be distributed earlier due to security concerns in the region, according to CARITAS officials.

Luka Lawrence, CARITAS Coordinator in Wau, told Radio Tamazuj that the aid included 50kg bags of sorghum, 25kg of beans, 5 litres of cooking oil, 3kg bags of salt, and 10kg bags of sugar. He explained that the supplies are intended to last each household for three months.

“We are here at St Joseph the Husband of Mary in Kuajok to distribute these items to 150 returnee households, including vulnerable individuals living with them,” Mr Lawrence said.

He added that a similar distribution had taken place at St George Catholic Church in Aweil, while Wau, with its five parishes, had provided aid to 330 returnee households due to the larger number of beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the assistance.

Abuk Kuol, a mother of five, said the food would help her family for several days. Another recipient, Atoch Charles, thanked the donors, saying, “I am happy for those who brought the food items to us.”
