The Canadian Chargé d’Affaires to Sudan, Dominic Rossetti, on Thursday expressed the concern of his country over the ongoing civil conflict in Sudan in the ‘Two Areas’ and Darfur.
Rossetti stated during the conclusion of a workshop organized by Nada’at Centre for Media and Human Rights in Khartoum that Canada is concerned about the continuing war within South Kordofan state, Blue Nile and Darfur.
He urged the Sudanese government to open the door for organizations to provide aid and assistance to displaced people in these regions before adding that his country will do as much possible to help those affected.
“The situations in these three regions of South Kordofan, Blue Nile and Darfur are in extremely difficult situations,” he stressed. Calling on journalists in the workshop to expose the true suffering of the displaced when reporting, he acknowledged the pivotal role of the media and asked journalists to be responsible and precise.
The Sudanese Armed Forces have been fighting rebel group, the SPLM-N, in South Kordofan since 2011, followed by other rebel groups in Blue Nile state since early 2012. Hundreds of thousands of refugees have fled their homes and are displaced either within Sudan or have crossed borders into South Sudan and Ethiopia to find refuge in camps.
