Sudan’s National Elections Commission (NEC) announced that campaigning for the April general elections starts today Tuesday.
El Hadi Mohamed Ahmed, head of the NEC’s polling control department, told Radio Tamazuj Monday the campaigning would run from 24 February to 10 April.
The announcement came after the commission received a court decision recently regarding nominations.
The official said they formed an election media committee in the capital Khartoum and other states to make sure the state-owned media gives equal opportunities to all candidates.
Separately, Deputy Chairman of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) Ibrahim Ghandour announced that President al-Bashir will launch his campaign in Gezira State Thursday.
Meanwhile, an alliance of Sudanese opposition political parties under the Sudan Appeal declaration said it is extending its campaign to boycott the elections beyond Khartoum and Gezira states.
