Health authorities in Jonglei State have started creating awareness about the dangers of the novel coronavirus in the greater Akobo area, an official disclosed.
Duop Kok Rom, the director of health in the defunct Bieh State, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that health education campaign on the pandemic started last week and it is still ongoing.
“We covered Waat town, Lankien, Pading, Pulturuk, Muotot and Pathai areas of Uror and Nyirol counties. We educate the locals on the signs and precautionary measures,” explained Kok.
He added, “The campaign is now ongoing and we want to cover the entire former Bieh state,” he added.
The health official urged the national government to step up its surveillance system along the country’s porous borders with Ethiopia.
Key symptoms of the new coronavirus include fever, dry cough and shortness of breath. The virus is spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes and the droplets land in the mouths and noses of another person.
A person can also get infected with coronavirus by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or their eyes.
