Calm returns to Sennar after RSF attack

A significant displacement occurred in Sennar town, the capital of Sudan’s Sennar State on Monday evening following an attempt by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to advance from Jabal Moya, west of the town.

In a press statement, Sennar State Governor Tawfiq Mohammed confirmed that a force comprising seven vehicles attacked the town’s advance defenses but was repulsed by the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF).

“The RSF intended to create panic among the citizens of Sennar through this operation,” he stated. “The attacking force launched several shells into the outskirts of Sennar, prompting a large number of citizens to flee their homes.”

For her part, Lana Ibrahim, a resident of Sennar, said there was an uneasy calm in the town Wednesday with heightened security measures instituted by the army.

“The RSF targeted several peripheral neighborhoods and the main market with artillery shelling, leading to significant displacement from the city,” she narrated. “The RSF did not enter the heart of Sennar town but are stationed in the Jabal Moya area.”

Ibrahim added: “Rumors about the liberation of the Sennar Sugar Factory from RSF control are false, as they still control the factory and harass the surrounding residents.”

She highlighted that citizens were forced to flee again, on foot and using small cars, and described the situation in the city as unsafe.
