Calm returns to Nama area after clashes among Misseriya tribe

Adam Agidat, the head of the peace and reconciliation committee in Sudan’s West Kordofan State, said calm has returned to Nama area after fresh clashes between Al-Ziyoud and Awlad Omran clans of the Misseriya tribe last Sunday.

Adam Agidat, the head of the peace and reconciliation committee in Sudan’s West Kordofan State, said calm has returned to Nama area after fresh clashes between Al-Ziyoud and Awlad Omran clans of the Misseriya tribe last Sunday.

The clashes which were triggered by a dispute over the ownership of a joint water point left six people dead and several others injured from both sides.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Agidat called on both sides to pay blood money for families of the victims as stipulated in a peace deal signed last year by the two communities.

“The final solution that I see is for both sides to commit to blood compensation and the second issue is for both sides to forgive each other and open a new page. They can point to the incident as an individual act and it shouldn’t affect the deal,”he said.

Tensions between Al-Ziyoud and Awlad Omran clans began three years ago when they fought over Um Barom land. In November 2014, they signed a peace deal, but the two sides continued to violate the agreement, creating fears of renewed clashes.
