Calm returns to Bor South after clashes over land

Clam has slowly returned to Bor South County in Jonglei state where four clans fought over ownership of grazing land last week, a local official said.

Bor County Commissioner Deng Mabior told Radio Tamazuj today that the government managed to control the security situation and urged the feuding communities to stop the fighting that has left 22 people dead and 18 others critically injured.

He pointed out that those who lost their lives have already been buried. “Now the situation is calm and the communities are living separately,” he said.

The local official said that the government has not yet taken any step to arrest those who incited violence among the communities in the county. “What we are trying to do now is to make sure that the situation is contained,” he said.

The fight over ownership of grazing land was between Nyara, Manyayiel, Biong and Nyichak clans.
