Call for the release of political prisoners in Blue Nile State

The Sudanese Cooperation for the Defence of Rights and Freedoms have reiterated their demand for the release of 113 political prisoners belonging to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North. The prisoners are reported to have been held in Sinar, Sinja and Roseires prisons since the September 2011 breakout of the conflict between SPLM-N and the government forces in Blue Nile State. Al- Tijani Hassan, who is heading a team of lawyers working on the case, reported that a petition has been presented to the Minister of Justice requesting that the cases are either transferred to court or the prisoners are to be released. Having spoken with an adviser at the Ministry of Justice, the lawyer expects to have a response from the ministry within days.
