The National Council of Ministers on Friday passed the Pension Fund Act 2012, Amendment Bill 2024 and the Strategic Plan for the Ministry of Health.
Addressing reporters after the meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir in Juba, Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services Minister Michael Makuei said his Justice Counterpart Justice Ruben Madol Arol, said they presented the Pension Act to the Cabinet that had been amended to conform to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan 2018.
Makuei said that some of the amendments were to do with the board members rising from seven to nine and some financial functions and duties, which were not allowed.
“There was also the issue of the pension between the National the State governments,” Makuei said
“Who collects the pension fund from all these? All these have been straightened out and that is why the Bill was passed and it is going to the National Legislative Assembly for consideration,” he said.
Labor Minister James Hoth Mai presented the Health Sector Strategic Plan.
Makuei said the plan was prepared by the Ministry of Health and is connected with the national health policy and healthcare services, and strengthens the leadership and management of the systems.
“It strengthens the partnership between the ministry and other organizations and for that matter, the ministry will be signing a compact or cooperation agreement with all the institutions concerned,” Makuei said
He noted that the Cabinet passed the policy with amendments, specifically on the map of South Sudan where they found two versions.
The Cabinet also formed a committee to investigate the Bentiu plane crash earlier this week that killed 20 people, including crew members.
Makuei said the Transport Minister briefed the Cabinet on the crash.
He said the remains of the victims, including 16 South Sudanese, two Chinese, one Indian and a Ugandan crew, were brought to Juba, whereas the remains of two South Sudanese from Unity State were taken for burial in Bentiu.
“The Minister said the investigation committee is comprised of the South Sudanese and the representatives of the plane manufacturer.
He said the Cabinet sent their condolences to the relatives of the victims and stood with them in their grief.
