South Sudan’s Council of Ministers on Friday approved two policy frameworks for the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology and the renovation of its complex on the outskirts of Juba.
Addressing reporters after the Cabinet meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir, Information Minister Michael Lueth Makuei said Gabriel Changson Chang of Higher Education made a presentation on the policy framework on science, technology and innovation and another on the renovation of the ministry.
“These three presentations were made to the Cabinet, and the first two were meant to strengthen, guide, develop, and transform the higher education sector, improve accessibility, and make it equitable, sustainable, and competitive,” Makuei said.
He further said the first framework was estimated to cost US$1.5 million (about 2.7 billion SSP) and the second was US$500.5 million.
“These two policies were approved and passed, and the minister is directed to present them to the National Legislative Assembly for consideration, and as for the third presentation, the renovation will be undertaken by the World Bank,” Makuei said
Makuei said the ministry building is on Yei Road, outside Juba Town, hence the need to extend electricity and enhance security.
