South Sudan’s cabinet on Wednesday approved the country’s general budget for 2018/19 fiscal year.

South Sudan's cabinet on Wednesday approved the country’s general budget for 2018/19 fiscal year.

Speaking to the reporters after the cabinet meeting, information minister Michael Makuei Leuth said the budget was increased to 81.6 billion SSP.

“The increment came as a result the lifting of the subsidies from the fuel and the rise in the prices of oil and improvement in the collection of the non-oil revenue. So the budget of this year is 81.6 billion South Sudanese pound,” he said.

“After length deliberations, the cabinet found that there were some ministries which were not satisfied with the amount allocated to them and as such the cabinet directed the Ministries of Petroleum, Agriculture, Transport and Higher Education to send their technical committees to the Ministry of Finance to review their budget, “he explained.

The approved budget is expected to be tabled before the National legislative Assembly next week.
