A businessman was killed in a revenge attack by a group of armed men in Ayod County of Jonglei state on Saturday, authorities said.
The county Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party secretary, Gabriel Tot Kai, told Radio Tamazuj that the deceased Yoak Pham was gunned down by the assailants while at his Salaam Market’s shop in Ayod town on Saturday evening.
“He was killed within Sallam Market at 8 pm. Those who killed him are suspected to have come from Uror County. The deceased trader is also from Uror,” he said.
The local official condemned the attack and said investigations are ongoing.
“The reason for the killing is not clear but he could have been targeted for involvement in the arrest of some cattle thieves in Ayod last month,” he said.
For his part, Major Tuor Majak, the state police spokesperson, said they are aware of the killing but that the details remain scanty.
