Operators of public buses on the routes between the Konyo Konyo and Lologo residential area in Juba have suspended transport services protesting the poor state of the road.

The drivers say the deep potholes and ditches in the road are making the route impassable, Radio Miraya reports. They are also claim a daily road toll of 10 South Sudanese pounds allegedly imposed by city authorities is not being put to right use.

But authorities of the Juba City Council said the road condition was just an ‘excuse’ for the protest.

Joselito Yoach Kulang, Clerk of the Juba City Council, told Radio Miraya on Wednesday, “We got information from our sources that they have stopped the activities of transporting the people from Lologo to the town with the excuse that the road is bad but they did not come to the city council.”

“It is like if somebody who is sick and there is a doctor, but the sick person does not come to the doctor, then the doctor will not know that there is somebody sick. So what we will do is we have to come to the place and the city council will see if there is urgent need.”
