A cross-section of the residents of the Buram area in Sudan’s South Darfur State have said the health situation in the region is deteriorating as only the hospital has stopped operations due to the lack of medicine and medical personnel.
The immunization officer in Buram locality, Issa Dawood Nama, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that vaccination of children against the six diseases has been halted since the beginning of the war in April last year.
He said the Buram Civil Hospital was the only health facility in the locality that used to offer health services to the people but that now it lacks essential services and health personnel as well.
“The health situation in the hospital is now dire as people are unable to get life-saving treatment,” Dawood lamented.
He appealed to organizations working in the health sector and to the medical administration of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and the government to support Buram Civil Hospital so that it can resume providing treatment to the residents of the localities of Al-Radom, Al-Santa, and Buram.
Mohammed Nasir Ahmed, the Director of the Livestock Office in the Buram locality, said the area also lacks vaccines for livestock which is threatening thousands of cattle.
“The health situation in Buram needs an urgent intervention to save the lives of both human beings and animals,” he stated.
Nasir appealed to the organizations and the Rapid Support Forces in the South Darfur sector to support Buram Hospital.
Meanwhile, Engineer Issa Jadallah Al-Nour said that the health situation in the Greater Buram area needs urgent attention as there was not a single medical staff in the hospital on Wednesday.
