The British government has donated more books to South Sudan just weeks after announcing a program to deliver 9.3 million textbooks to primary schools. This time the small donation of specialized legal books was intended for the national parliament.
Books are still rather rare in South Sudan and even the parliament’s library was nearly empty. Speaker James Wani Igga had appealed to British Ambassador Alistair McPhail to help with the matter.
The British embassy on Tuesday handed over a selection of titles on political systems, legislative process, constitutional concepts and other subjects. In a press release the embassy called the move “a gesture marking the British Parliament’s commitment to support the National Legislative Assembly.”
