Britain has called on the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to institute punitive measures against violators of the peace process in South Sudan.
“We have been calling consistently on IGAD, and through IGAD then the AU to take the action that they have said they would take,” British special envoy to South Sudan Chris Trott told reporters in Addis Ababa on Wednesday.
He reiterated their commitment to support the South Sudanese peace process through the regional body.
Trott, who was also a representative of the Troika group of nations at the peace talks in Addis Ababa, urged regional countries to act promptly on any violations and lack of commitment to the peace process in South Sudan.
Britain is among world powers trying to put pressure on the South Sudan warring parties to bring an end to the ongoing civil war.
