A breastfeeding mother of a 4-month-old baby committed suicide and motorcycle (boda-boda) rider was killed by unknown gunman in Rumbek North and Rumbek Centre counties respectively in Lakes State.
According to police authority, the two incidences occurred on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Maj Elijah Mabor Makuac told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that a 21-year-old mother committed a suicide by hanging herself with rope at Akhorkor Village in Malueth Payam, while a boda rider was shot dead while transporting a passenger from Rumbek North to Rumbek Centre.
He said both incidences occurred on Thursday and the motive behind the suicide was yet to be established.
Police were investigating the matter, he added.
Makuac explained that on the same day at around 6:30pm, unknown gunman killed a 19-year-old boda boda rider at Meen-dam Village, adding that the suspect fled.
Makuac called on the Lakes State community to cooperate with the security forces to provide information about the culprits, and advised the people against taking the law into their own hands.
The Coordinator for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) in Lakes State Daniel Laat Kon said that there were too many incidences in the region.
He said CEPO was calling on the local residents to reflect on their lives.
