One person was killed and four others injured after fighting broke out among South Sudanese refugees at Abu-Songur camp near Kosti town in Sudan’s White Nile State on Monday.
Several refugees told Radio Tamazuj that the brawl involved supporters of the newly appointed first vice president Taban Deng and those loyal to opposition leader Riek Machar. They added that the wounded were taken to Kosti Hospital for treatment.
The refugees confirmed that one refugee was killed and four others sustained injuries during fighting. But it unclear which side started the attack.
For his part, a camp leader who preferred anonymity told Radio Tamazuj that police authorities managed to contain the situation, while accusing the police officers of looting the refugee’s properties. The camp leader claimed that some refugees were beaten indiscriminately by the Sudanese police.
