Boy injured as truck collides with bus along Juba-Nimule road

A Ugandan truck driver employed by a pan-African company has been detained at Nimule Police Station after his vehicle collided with a passenger bus, leaving a 17-year-old boy injured.

The incident occurred on Thursday along the Jelei-Nimule Highway, with authorities attributing the crash to suspected mechanical failure and excessive speed.

Nimule Town Council Traffic Director, Maj Eliza Bill Mapuor, confirmed that all other passengers on the bus were unharmed, and the injured teenager is in stable condition.

The driver, whose name has not been released, is expected to face charges in court.

Maj. Mapuor clarified that the bus was travelling from Juba, while the truck was en route from Uganda. He also dismissed rumours that two people had died in the accident.

Nimule Police Inspector Maj David Khasmiro confirmed the incident, which took place at around 10:00 AM on Thursday. He urged vehicle owners to ensure regular maintenance and called on drivers to adhere to speed limits.

“The accident involved a passenger bus and a truck. Fortunately, there were no major injuries, aside from the boy who sustained a leg injury. Preliminary investigations suggest the truck’s brakes may have failed,” Maj Khasmiro said.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of road safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
