Some thousand people in Raja County lost their homes and crops after the Boro River burst its banks. In total, 37 farms have been destroyed and 1004 residents were forced to leave their houses after heavy rainfall started 10 days ago in Raja County.

A resident from Boro Medina, in Raja County, told Radio Tamazuj in a telephone interview the worst is not over yet as rain continued to fall on Monday. “We have not experienced rains this bad since forty years. All our crops are destroyed.” He added that he does not know how families will survive without harvesting onion, rice and maize this year.

Boro Medina is located some hundred kilometers from Raja town. During the rainy season it is difficult for residents from Bora Medina to reach the town as roads are flooded and there are no bridges on the way to Raja. In this season, Farmers struggle already to transport their goods to the markets in town.

Peter Nenebubu, Country Secretary of the South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (SSRRC), confirmed the flooding in Raja. He told Radio Tamazuj his office is working hard to ensure humanitarian aid reaches the flood victims.
