Border Demarcation Committee fails to identify ‘Zero Line’

The Commissioner of Renk County in Upper Nile State disclosed that the African Committee for Border Demarcation failed to identify the so-called ‘Zero Line’ along the Sudan-South Sudan border.

The committee arrived in Renk last Wednesday with the purpose of indenting the ‘Zero Line’ in the Joda area in the north of the Upper Nile state.

Commissioner Gout Akuei said the committee also visited the Wuntou area on August 14 “to determine the border and facilitate the opening of crossing points between Sudan and South Sudan.”

Akuei also said that the International Committee failed to establish the point in the Fukhar area, as proposed by the African Union.

“The people of Fukhar don’t want it to be the Zero Line as this issue would cause tension between the bordering communities,” the commissioner explained.
