The arrest of 9 Bor youths by government's spy agency known as National Security Service (NSS) in Juba has nothing to do with politics, a community leader said.

Deng Dau Deng, an MP in Juba and deputy chairperson of the greater Bor community, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that he went to see the arrested Bor youths in detention.

“The arrested youths are eight soldiers and one civilian, and that civilian was arrested because he was moving with the eight soldiers. They were arrested on their way to Bor without any departure order,” Dau said.

"The arrest of those youths has nothing to do with politics," he stressed, adding that it is about “travelling without any departure order from their units in Juba."

The lawmaker pointed out that the nine youths will be either released or take to court.

Philip Thon Leek, former governor of Jonglei state and MP representing Duk County, said there are talks with national security officials over reports that several youths from greater Bor have been jailed.

“As I am talking to you, there is no clear information. Yes, I have heard of some names of people detained by the national security,” Thon said.

The lawmaker identified the arrested youths as Rev. Gabriel Maker Majak from Duk area, Thon Majak Thucjok from Baidit area, Mading Alier Deng from Wangulei, Maker Lim Deng from Duk, Ayuen Adhieu from Makuac, Maluak Ayuen Awuol from Baidit, Peter John Kon Deng from Anyidi and Madol Thon Alier from Kolnyang area.
