The mayor of Bor municipality in South Sudan’s Jonglei state has recently issued a decision banning locally brewed alcohol, which he described as “harmful” to citizens’ health.

Nhial Majak Nhial told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that they have also shut down shops selling smoking hookah at the market within the town.

He said shisha and locally made alcohols as well as other items that do not have original licensing were banned in the town last year.

“We do not need spirit drinks like whisky called B52, Best and Nock out as well as locally-made alcohol known as Aragi,” he stressed.
