Doctors at the Bor State Hospital in South Sudan’s Jonglei State reported severe shortages of medicines in the facility.

Doctors at the Bor State Hospital in South Sudan’s Jonglei State reported severe shortages of medicines in the facility.

The hospital’s medical director Bol Chaw told Radio Tamazuj that the biggest challenge in the hospital is the shortage of medicines amid rising cases of malaria and pneumonia.

Chaw pointed out that that there have been occasional interruptions to the regular supply of medicines to the state.

“We received a consignment only in April and cases of malaria, typhoid, pneumonia and peptic ulcers are on the rise. We had over 10, 000 patients of malaria only this year at the hospital, but there are no drugs, “he said.

The medical director further said patients admitted are being asked to buy medicines for malaria and other diseases from the private clinics because they do not have them in the hospital.

Bol appealed to the national health ministry and aid agencies to supply the hospital with medicines.
