Bor herders, Bari community agree to stop fighting in Lobonok

Former SPLA spokesman and new Jonglei governor Col. Philip Aguer said Dinka Bor herders and Bari farmers agreed to settle their differences amicably after clashes resulted in at least five deaths in Lobonok payam in South Sudan’s Jubek state on Monday.

Former SPLA spokesman and new Jonglei governor Col. Philip Aguer said Dinka Bor herders and Bari farmers agreed to settle their differences amicably after clashes resulted in at least five deaths in Lobonok payam in South Sudan’s Jubek state on Monday.

Aguer told Radio Tamazuj he met the Jubek governor, members of the Bari community, and Bor herders on Monday in an attempt to solve the problem.

“We in the headquarters of Jubek State, we met with the governor Hon. Jadallah and with all Bari community leaders and leaders of Dinka Bor community,” Auer said.

Aguer said they agreed to stop fighting in the area, and pointed out that the national government dispatched a security team to control the situation and monitor the departure of the herders from the Equatoria region.

“We discussed the fighting in Lobonok area between the herders and local farmers, so we agreed to find urgent solutions and stop the killings between the herders and farmers,” he said.

Last year, President Kiir ordered pastoralists from other states to leave Equatoria region following complaints about their actions from local populations, but not all herders vacated the region.
