Bor authorities appeal for help to Magwi raids victims

Authorities of Jonglei State’s Bor County have appealed for humanitarian support to the thousands left homeless and hungry after their cattle camps in Eastern Equatoria State’s Magwi County were attacked by armed assailants on Friday.

The attack also left at least 35 civilians dead and dozens others injured.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday evening, Bor County Executive Director Majak Deng Kuany, said thousands of the Bor Dinka community members have been left in misery after their livelihoods were destroyed.

“Following the attack on four cattle camps in Nyolo Payam, our pastoralists are wandering in areas along the Juba-Nimule road like Nacito. Thousands of cattle were raided and now our people have no food or water,” Kuany said.

“We feel our people are being neglected by the aid agencies. We appeal that they be assisted with food, water, and shelters,” he added.

The Jonglei State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) Coordinator, Mading Akueth, said they were dismayed by the incident and that contingency measures were being put in place to assist the victims when they arrive.

“Since the attack occurred in Equatoria region, RRC offices there will be the ones to care for the victims there. For us in Jonglei State, we alerted our partners and preparation are underway to assist those who will return,” he said.
