South Sudan’s Boma State government said it had embarked on campaigns to disseminate the revitalized peace deal among local communities in the state.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, John Kaka, the state information minister said the campaigns by the state cabinet members and legislators which started in the mid-June is aimed at disseminating the peace deal and promoting cultural tolerance among communities in the state.
“Greater Likuangole team left on June 15. They started campaigns in Monychar, Kongor, and Nanaam areas. Another group left for greater Gumuruk areas on June 16, while deputy governor was in Jebel Boma, Muruo and Labrab areas. They are preaching peace messages among communities,” Kaka explained.
Kaka added that deputy governor will also travel to greater Pochalla areas with the same mission.
He also pointed out that they initiated peace rallies to build trust among communities following weeks of inter-communal clashes.
In May, tensions rose among members of Jie and Murle ethnic groups in Boma’s Jebel Boma County as the two pastoralist communities wrangled over cattle.
The inter-communal clashes left more than 50 people dead and several herds of cattle stolen.
