Boma officials accuse elements from Jonglei of killing six aid workers

Authorities in Boma State have accused elements from neighboring Jonglei State of killing six aid workers last week.

UN officials said Saturday that six humanitarian aid workers were killed as they travelled in a convoy from the capital, Juba, to the eastern town of Pibor.

Boma Minister of Information John Achuan told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that the security report confirmed that those who killed the aid workers along the Juba-Pibor road hail from Bor.

He further said the attack took place in a border area between Jubek, Boma and Jonglei states, saying a joint investigation carried out by security officials from Jubak and Boma states confirmed that the killers crossed to Bor after the incident.

“According to our information, the vehicle has been driven to Bor after the incident at a junction between Juba, Bor and Pibor, so the people were killed and they took the car to Bor,” he said.

“After the killing of those people at the junction, the vehicle with its number plate 951 RSS NGO headed to Bor, so that means they are still creating roadblocks and this is one of the things we will discuss in the upcoming peace conference,” he added.

Radio Tamazuj could not reach government officials from Jonglei to comment on the matter.
