Boma leaders give conditions for peaceful talks with Dinka Bor

Murle community leaders in Boma State will accept peace talks with traditional leaders of the Dinka Bor tribe in Jonglei if their youth withdraw from Boma state, a Murle youth leader said.

Murle community leaders in Boma State will accept peace talks with traditional leaders of the Dinka Bor tribe in Jonglei if their youth withdraw from Boma state, a Murle youth leader said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, Nyany Korok, a youth leader in Boma, said the condition came during a meeting with First Vice President Taban Deng Gai last week.

“We told the First Vice President that he should go back and tell leaders of Jonglei to instruct their youth to leave our land,” said Korok.

“If that is done then we will now think of sitting with them (Dinka Bor) to seek peace. This is our voice as Boma community, we cannot talk about peace meanwhile they are still occupying our land, “he added.

Separately, Dinka Bor chiefs said they will only negotiate peace if their stolen cattle and abducted children are returned.

Last week, the First Vice President led a delegation formed by the cabinet to Jonglei to find a solution to the ongoing conflict between the Murle and Dinka Bor tribes.
