Authorities in South Sudan’s Boma State have launched the 'Back to Learning' campaign to help kick-start education for both boys and girls, a year after schools witnessed low numbers of pupils due to insecurity and hunger in many parts of the state.

Pochalla County Commissioner Jay Adingora Alual told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the campaign is aimed at encouraging both children and adult learners to go back to school saying the security and food situations have improved in the county.

“This was done to win children back to schools after they become reluctant to education because of insecurity and hunger that affected the place since December 2016,” he said.

“With the improvement now, we want all people back to schools. Children to go back to primary, and adult to join adult classes,” he added.

However, local official in the county has complained of lack of teachers, but he also acknowledged that a number of community members had expressed readiness to volunteer as teachers in the county.
