Baba Medan Konyi, Governor of Boma State, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the peace conference held in Gumuruk area on Tuesday aimed at settling the security situation to ensure smooth movements of the people of the two states.

“So yesterday we agreed to open the road, so the traders of Boma state will take their cows to Jonglei and Juba without any hindrances along the road” said Medan.

The state official further said they also agreed to hold a similar peace conference in Anyidi area in Jonglei State in September to arrange for a general peace conference.

“We will talk about the same agenda discussed in Gumuruk, so if we agree on that, then we will call for a general peace conference,” he said.

He pointed out that yesterday’s meeting directed all county commissioners, traditional leaders, and administrative officers to disseminate peace and reconciliation messages among the two communities in an attempt to curb crimes.

Baba Medan indicted that the meeting also resolved to establish community police to protect the common borders between the two states.”These procedures are ongoing, so we are still at the first stage, “he explained.

The governor revealed that his counterpart attended the peace conference in Gumuruk area together with 21 people.”The delegation that came from Jonglei comprised of the governor, peace adviser, Bor county commissioner, parliamentarians, head of the peace commission, and there were also representatives of youth and women, so the number was 21,” he explained.

Governor Medan added that they also adopted a plan to hold a general peace conference that will bring together all communities of Bieh, Pangak, Jonglei and Boma States.

Several officials and all chiefs of Boma State participated in the peace meeting in Gumuruk, according to the South Sudanese politician.
