Boma governor urges Murle, Dinka Bor youth to accept ceasefire

The Governor of Boma State, Ismail Konyi, has called on the Murle tribe and local youth from neighboring Jonglei State who are currently in Kotchar and Manyibol areas to stop fighting.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Governor Kony said the peace conference between the two sides must be preceded by a ceasefire in the area. He also denied knowledge of any preparations for peace conference between the two communities in Kapoeta.

He urged local youth from Bor to go back to their villages and stop fight, while calling on the Murle tribe not to pursue the local youth from Bor when they start withdrawing from Kotchar and Manyibol areas.

Meanwhile, multiple sources from Bor town said the security situation was relatively calm between Jonglei and Boma state. However, they confirmed that the local youths from Bor were still in Kotchar and Manyibol areas of Boma.

The same sources pointed out that there were ongoing preparations to hold a peace conference between the two sides in Kapoeta on 9 May.
