Boma governor appoints woman politician as new deputy

Baba Medan, governor of Boma State, has appointed Rachael Anok as his deputy, making her the only female deputy governor in South Sudan.

Baba Medan, governor of Boma State, has appointed Rachael Anok as his deputy, making her the only female deputy governor in South Sudan.

Governor Baba, an ally of defense minister Kuol Manyang, announced the relief of his deputy Ogato Cham Gilo, who was from ethnic Anyuak, and replaced him with a woman politician from the same community. 

Ogato has been given a position as the advisor on economic affairs. 

The first woman politician to serve as deputy governor after the creation of the 28 states by presidential establishment order in 2015 was Lol State Deputy Governor Sumeiyo Adut Deng who was later removed from her position by the governor of Lol State, Rizik Zachariah Hassan.

The other 27 states in the country continue have all male governors and deputy governors.
