Authorities in South Sudan’s Boma State say severe floods that hit the area have led to a deteriorating humanitarian situation.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the deputy state governor, John Abulla said roads linking the state are completely cut off, adding that consumer goods are airlifted to the area, making prices higher in the market.
The government official disclosed that food assistance provided by humanitarian organizations is insufficient due to the needs on the ground. Abulla complained about the spread of diseases such as malaria, diarrhea and measles among children.
He appealed to aid agencies to give special attention to Boma where the entire population is cut off from healthcare.
Separately, the deputy governor said floods have also disconnected the only telecommunications network in the area since October last year. “We are still communicating with MTN to return to the state and restore the network,” he said.
