Authorities in South Sudan’s Boma state say seven children abducted from neighboring communities were rescued in the state last week.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, John Abulla, the state deputy governor said they will facilitate the return of the children.

He said five of 11 children abducted from Bieh State have been recovered.

“The two boys were handed over to Jonglei and Kapoeta authorities so that they are united with their parents. And as we speak now, we recovered five of eleven children abducted from Bieh State. They are with the commissioner of Likuangole,” Abulla explained.

Abulla reiterated that authorities in Boma are committed to ending child abductions and cattle raids but called for support from the national government in disarming the greater Jonglei communities.
