The bodyguards of Lakes State Deputy Governor Isaiah Akol Mathiang killed a suspected criminal in Cueibet County, the police confirmed.

According to Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, the Lakes State police spokesperson, the suspect identified as Machuil Aming-der who was heavily armed, was killed on Sunday when he attempted to attack the deputy governor’s convoy in Pagoor Payam, the headquarters of Cueibet County.

“There was an incident involving Deputy Governor Isaiah Akol Mathiang and a heavily armed notorious criminal who is well known in Pagoor Payam was killed by the security forces guarding the deputy governor,” he said.  “This notorious criminal is known by everybody in Cueibet County for causing trouble within Cueibet territories and the bordering counties of neighboring Warrap State.”

Maj. Mabor said that the late Machuil was the most notorious criminal and was involved in killings and looting.

“He disturbed the people in Cueibet County by killing people and looting property and extended his criminal activities to other areas bordering Rumbek Central County and Tonj in Warrap State,” he added.
