The remains of the late Hon. Victor Edward Kpiawandu, who served in several senior political capacities in Western Equatoria State, on Tuesday arrived in Yambio Town for burial. 

Hon. Victor Kpiawandu died in Juba on Tuesday last week, aged 62, and had served as deputy governor and speaker of the now-defunct Gbudue State in Western Equatoria. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the Council of States in Juba.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday on behalf of the family of the deceased, Jacob Joseph, said it is a great loss to them since he was the head of the family financing the education of several students.  

“Victor Kpiawandu was a good man. For our family, we appreciate him for what he has done for us, but God just took him abruptly like that,” Joseph explained. “He was not feeling well in the evening and he went to take a shower and after coming from there he fell and started vomiting blood. When we took him to the doctor, they said he died of high blood pressure. He died at the age of 62 according to his elder brother.” 

Joseph says the deceased political leader will be buried in his ancestral home of Asanza.

“The body is still in the church and this (Wednesday) morning we will take him to our village in Asanza where the burial will take place. I would like to tell the family and the people of Yambio that we have lost a great father but we put it in the hand of God because he gives and takes,” Joseph said.

Meanwhile, the governor of Western Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo, described the late Victor Edward Kpiawandu as a great man who was for peace, unity, and a God-fearing person during his life.

“We will give time one day to mourn the death of our senior politician. That is my order to you as the governor and we will contribute with what we have to make sure that the funeral goes well,” Governor Futuyo ordered.
