Bodies of two Ugandan nationals, who were killed by armed men in Rumbek area of South Sudan’s Western Lakes State on Sunday, were flown to Uganda on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased, who were identified as Willis Binsiima and Charles Kule, were teachers at Hope and Resurrection Secondary School in the area of Atiaba.

Daniel Cithok Manguen, the acting governor of Western Lakes State, told Radio Tamazuj that the bodies have been flown to Uganda where they will be buried.

“A chartered aircraft to transport the bodies arrived in Rumbek airport and the bodies of the two Ugandan teachers have been flown to Uganda for burial,” Chithok said.

The government official appealed to the families of the two Ugandan teachers killed in Western Lakes to remain calm as the state government works to apprehend the perpetrators.

Malok Majak, who spoke on behalf of Western Lakes intellectuals, condemned the incident in the strongest terms possible.

“As the community of Rumbek, we are saddened by the incident that occurred on Sunday. The two Ugandan teachers from Hope and Resurrection Secondary School fell into an ambush in Apet when they were going back to their school from Rumbek. They got killed in a revenge-related incident,” he explained.

Malok called upon the state government to apprehend the culprits. “We are urging the government and the relatives of the suspects to bring the culprits to book,” he stressed.

Students, teachers and government officials gathered at the airstrip to pay their respects to Willis and Kule.

Traffic police in Rumbek town on Tuesday said a Kenyan driver was immediately arrested after an accident that killed Makur Kueideer Reec, a local chief in Rumbek. The incident took place near Rumbek Roundabout on Sunday.
