A boda-boda rider known as Jerfas Anthony Sumba was shot and killed on Monday night in Tambura County of Western Equatoria State by unknown assailants.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, the Chief Inspector of police in Tambura, Col. Edward Gbaki, said the incident happened in the Nambia area of Tambura West County when the man was attacked in his house and shot dead.
"This thing happened at night when unknown people came and attacked the boy in his house and shot at him and ran away. It happened at night. When they heard gunshots, the neighbors could not come out to find out what was happening," Col. Gbaki explained. “So, in the morning the case with the body came to us here at the police and we took it to the hospital and after that, the dead body was handed over to the relatives.”
He said the police have stepped up security and are monitoring the area. He assured the public that it was an isolated incident and they should not panic.
"The case is not that of general insecurity and people should not panic. We will create awareness and sensitize them so that they remain calm. The situation is under control and investigations are ongoing,” Col. Gbaki said.
Last week a boda-boda rider was injured 9 miles away from Tambura town by unknown gunmen.
