Blue Nile to lift emergency law when ‘normal’

The lifting of the emergency law in Blue Nile State will be contingent on conditions of ‘normalcy’ in the region, a state official announced.

Kamal Khalafallah, the state minister for culture and information, said in a statement to the Sudan News agency (SUNA) that the emergency law does not affect civilians’ lives or political activities in the state.

He said that abolishment of the emergency law needs to be studied and cross-checked with competent authorities. But he pointed out that the emergency law contributes toward preservation of the prestige of the state and its sovereignty and is a means of working toward security in the region.

Khalafallah noted that the final decision is up to the leadership of the country, which has the mechanism to lift the emergency measure.
