Secondary leaving examinations in Maban County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile state are scheduled to kick off 18 February amid security concerns among Blue Nile refugees, a local teacher said.

Sadig Suleiman, a teacher at Doro camp, told Radio Tamazuj that several Blue Nile refugees living in Maban County are concerned at mounting tensions between the two warring SPLA factions.

He said parents have called on the education department to establish a new examinations centre for their children at El Shaid Jafar Juma in Doro camp instead of Bunj Secondary School.

The Blue Nile refugees said they fear fighting could erupt at any time and disrupt their childrens’ examinations in Maban, according to the teacher.
