Blue Nile refugees stranded on Ethiopian border

Hundreds of displaced people from Blue Nile state are stranded along the border with Ethiopia and suffering as a result of poor living conditions.  Others, who spoke to Radio Tamazuj, have managed to make the journey to Kuburi Kamsa refugee camp within Ethiopian territory.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj via telephone, the refugees in Ethiopia reported that there are hundreds of people from eastern Geissan who are stranded at the border after fleeing conflict in their home state.  However, they described the conditions of those stranded as the poorest due to a lack of food and shelter, and a fear that their vulnerability will increase as the seasons change.

“The stranded fled to escape the insecurity in Blue Nile, in addition to the lack of food,” one source acknowledged before urging humanitarian organizations to intervene in order to save the lives of those stranded.

Meanwhile, those in Ethiopia’s Bambasi refugee camp have complained of a lack of shelter and of poor sanitation and health services in the camp citing a shortage in medical staff as well as the spread of disease among children and mothers.
