Blue Nile refugees in Maban report food shortage

Blue Nile refugees in Maban County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile state reported meager food rations owing to a reduced distribution by UN agencies as the security situation deteriorates.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Omda Al Simet Al Imama said several Blue Nile families at Doro, Jamam, Jendrasa, and Yusuf Batil camps were experiencing a food shortage.

He said the food rations being dropped by air are inadequate and that shelter and plastic sheets are lacking too.

The refugee leader also expressed concern about increasing insecurity in some parts of Upper Nile.

The Sudanese omda called upon the international NGOs and relevant authorities to increase their food rations and provide them with shelter.

In 2011, Blue Nile families fled into South Sudan to avoid aerial bombardments by the Sudanese government and fighting between the army and Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North rebels.
