Blue Nile refugees at Doro camp in Maban County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile are reportedly faced with meagre food rations owing to a reduced distribution by UN agencies.

Several Blue Nile families told Radio Tamazuj that they were experiencing a food shortage, saying the food rations being given are inadequate.

They also reported increasing prices of commodities at the market due to poor road conditions connecting Maban County with other areas.

The refugees also expressed concern about increasing insecurity in some parts of Upper Nile.

In 2011, Blue Nile families fled into South Sudan to avoid aerial bombardments by the Sudanese government and fighting between the army and Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North (SPLA-N).

Other displaced families arrived from elsewhere in Upper Nile State itself, after fighting erupted in South Sudan in December last year.

The Sudanese refugees called upon the international NGOs and relevant authorities to increase their food rations and repair roads leading to Maban.
